MONTH OF OPERATION: OCTOBER TO MAY

This is a biking trip spiced up with crab catching experience, which isn't exactly a dream sport for those obsessed with hygiene. A rustic outdoor sport, it is still a favored once-a-month outing for rural teenagers and some enterprising adults in those parts of Goa which are far removed from the tourism spotlight.

Meet your local host, who will wait for you with the bike, either at Panjim @ Mandovi cruise jetty OR Calangute @ St. Alex Church. We take you to the nearby river located in North Goa (Pomburpa-Aldona, Baga, Nerul, Ribandar) by bike like a local. Locals usually place the bait during the high tides especially, and during the low tides near deep waters will give you a perfect chance for Crabs. Crabbing in the many estuarine waters of Goa, as well as in the submerged fields, is done with the help of handmade traps. A trap called a 'cobllem' in Konkani consists of a circular ring -- made of metal nowadays -- with another rod running across the diameter. A loose hanging net is secured to one side of the ring. Refreshments shall be served during the tour.

You can also try and cook your catch of the day or simply sell it to the local restaurant, or fish vendor at a small charge. We say it’s all about experience.
